Stay at our beautifully modernised detached four bedroom hill-top cottage 10 minutes from Torrington in spectacular North Devon. Originally three farm workers' cottages built in the 1820s, the cottage boasts many original features including three large fireplaces with traditional bread ovens, two of which now offer wood-burning stoves. Enjoy our large lounge, cosy snug and full-size central dining room, a well-equipped kitchen, four large double or twin bedrooms, two bathrooms and separate shower room and take advantage of our free Super Fast broadband or play on our table football table. There are nearly two acres of fully enclosed garden for all the family and up to three (or possibly more by advance agreement with us) dogs to enjoy the space to roam and play, with spectacular views of North Devon. Garden furniture and a barbeque are provided for guests to use.
Lantern Cross is an excellent base from which to walk or cycle the Tarka Trail, ramble on Dartmoor or Exmoor (both about 45 minutes away) or enjoy picturesque Bideford, Appledore or Clovelly or the beaches at Westward Ho! and Braunton. Visit the Dartington Crystal works at Torrington and the beautiful RHS Gardens at Rosemoor which provide ever-changing vistas throughout the year. Shop at the two traditional butchers, bakers and greengrocers in Torrington or use the Co-Op or Lidl. For large shops, choose from Waitrose in Okehampton (35 minutes) or Morrisons in Bideford or Sainsbury's in Barnstaple, both about half an hour away. Enjoy a warm welcome and good pub food and beer at the Globe in Beaford, less than three quarters of a mile away, or choose from a wide range of other dining opportunities at pubs within 20 minutes' drive.
Please note that our 19th century cottage has some changes in level and low and narrow doorways and may not be suitable for some people with limited mobility.
Lantern Cross is a much-loved holiday home used frequently by our friends and ourselves. After renting many holiday properties that have clearly never been stayed in by the owners we like to think this makes a difference. You will, for example, find sufficient coat hooks in our two hallways to deal with a full complement of dripping waterproofs if the weather hasn't been kind - whereas often we have found nowhere to hang damp clothes in other cottages we have rented!
